New Style Family

Posted August 26th, 2005 by Mike Cherim

We hope you enjoy the new style.

It’s taken a little while to get this done, but at last a new style family has been added to this website — as promised. This one is called “Georgia.” And like the default version “Bamboo,” this style also has a dial-up cousin called “Georgia Lite.”

As the name implies, the Georgia style uses “Georgia” as its primary type style or font. Georgia, for those who don’t know, is a serif font like Times New Roman. Georgia, however, unlike Times New Roman, is web font by design. In fact it is the only official serif web font. If for some reason you don’t have Georgia on your computer (you should have it), the back-up type styles specified are first Garamond, then Times New Roman, followed by the generic specification of “serif.”

This new style family is ideal for anyone who prefers to read a serif font rather than sans-serif one. Some people feel that making out words written in a serif font is easier. Others feel just the opposite. Obviously this’ll have to be your preference, your choice.

Speaking of choices, as detailed on the User Settings page, the PHP Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP) style switcher on this site relies on the use of a cookie called “gm_style” and thus one must have cookies enabled to use this feature. Don’t worry, we do offer information on how to do this if you don’t know how.

We hope you enjoy the new style. Feedback about it may be given in our Guestbook. The links below will allow you to try the styles out. To change back to the default “Bamboo” style or its “Lite” version, and to control your style choices as you would normally, please do this on the User Settings page.

Update: With the relaunch of our web site (2007), the style changer is no longer available. Sorry.
