Web Advertising

If you’re a regular visitor to this site you’ll probably have noticed the change to our site as it pertains to website advertisements. If you’re new here, so you understand as well, we now show third-party ads on this site in addition those we’ve supported since launch; this is a first for us. We decided to sign up for Google’s Adsense program to increase the amount of revenue generated directly by this site.

In case you’re wondering, this isn’t a big-time corporate greed in action. At least that’s not how we’re thinking about it. Hosting and running a site of this size costs money, and since we don’t sell anything on this site, we decided long ago to offer ads to anyone in our industry: our competitors, our distributors, or anyone who might be interested; first-party ad sales. Unfortunately, even though our pricing is extremely low (we practically give ad spots away), this hasn’t been well received. Due to this disappointing reality, we’ve been left with no choice but to allow third-party involvement.

The result of our action can be seen on nearly every page of this site in the form of those ubiquitous “Ads by Goooooogle” posted on the sidebar. We hope you don’t mind. We did what we felt we had to. This new type of advertising is generated by the content on any given page so it’s supposed to be more targeted and relevant. We see that this is mostly the case. These are legitimate advertisers so we really don’t mind them that much. And the best part, if someone clicks on one of the ads, we get paid. It’s not a lot of money, just a few cents actually, but it’s steady and reliable, and those cents can add up. If you want to support our cause, in fact, and don’t have a need or interest in advertising your goods or services here, click those ads, visit those advertisers — give us a nickel.
