Out of sight, out of mind. But we shouldn’t forget or ignore the fact that right now pests are regrouping — preparing their forces for next year’s onslaught. For example, Japanese beetles, are now little grubs, eating your lawn, fattening themselves. They will then take a nap through the winter, to recharge their batteries, so they will be ready to resume feeding and fattening and developing at the soonest opportunity next spring. Reminding you of this is one thing, and we suppose it helps, but we figure you might appreciate a sale of these items even more. We figured that’s one way to get your attention.
Hb Nematodes on Sale
The grubs are small right now and an easy mark for our Heterorhabditis bacteriophora (Hb) nematodes. And since Japanese beetles are just an example, and many other grubs share their life cycle, making preemptive releases of these refrigerator-storable nematodes at the end of the summer is a wise move. Applying them now is very economical; it can provide big results next year. Get Hb nematodes on sponges in our shop. (Note: Refrigerator-storable for up to three months so you can buy in bulk saving even more on shipping.)
Milky Spore On Sale
Since we’re into taking down grubs like those pesky Japanese beetle larvae, it wouldn’t hurt to hit them with Bacillus popilliae, also known as milky spore disease (powder), as well. It all depends on whether it’s an ongoing problem or not. Milky spore disease, being living bacteria, provide exceptionally long-term control. B. popilliae take a while to become fully established, though, so at first it is sometimes a good idea to use the nematodes and milky spore jointly. Milky spore powder is available online right now. You can apply anytime the ground isn’t frozen, but we’d not recommend waiting until the last minute.
