Nematode Combination Packs On Sale
This time of the year is our peak, and the same is true of our customers. It’s peak for us in sales and activity, but for our customers the peak refers to pest activity. And not just the numbers of pests, but the numbers of diverse species. There comes a point when our customers are targeting multiple pests. To help we decided to put our combination (Hb/Sc) pack nematodes on sale. The combo offers the greatest range — over 90% of pests spend at least some time in the dirt kingdom so it’s a good place to go after them.

Natural Does Not Mean Safe
This is one of those editorial entries that could be considered a public service announcement. In that it counters some pesticide makers’ marketing efforts, perhaps we’re not supposed to speak of such things, but this topic is important. People need to know. Something being natural does not make it safe or organic. That said, let me start with a short story about our initial encounter:

Last of the Ladybugs Sale
Every year around this time the winter-collected ladybugs (Hippodamia convergens) are being sold off to make room for the new summer-collected beetles. Sometimes this happens so quickly we actually run out of stock for a week or two. This year, since numbers are holding strong, we decided to have a ladybug sale. Since these are winter-collected ladybugs coming to their natural end, storage is limited to a couple of weeks, instead of months, but they’re still hungry so this is a good time to save if you can release them quickly.

Regulatory Changes and the Biocontrol Industry
Editor’s Note: Since 2002 the biocontrol industry has had a more difficult time importing and moving the beneficial insects, mites, and nematodes collectively known as biocontrols. Transportation barriers were put in place — stemming from the events of 9/11 — making our efforts more challenging. Efforts to make changes so as to lessen or even remove said barriers has been handled by the ANBP (Association of Natural Bio-control Producers), of which we are a member. Lynn M. Beck, Executive Director, has provided the following update as it concerns these matters. –Ed.
