2011 New Beetles Ladybug Sale
As we noted in our most recent weblog entry our summer ladybug beetles (Hippodamia convergens) are being collected and are now available. In light of this, and because we will be semi-closed next week, the 4th through the 8th, we decided this would be a perfect item to discount.

Some Timely Summer Announcements
As of the time of publication, summer starts tomorrow (what, already, where was spring?!) and we have a few mildly important announcements. A few tidbits ranging from the availability of new summer ladybugs, to a new status for Aphidius matricariae, and ending on a word or two about our annual summer quasi-vacation.

Mosquito Buster Sale
Not all pests hang out in the greenhouse or garden eating our plants. Some prefer to munch on us! Namely mosquitoes. We’re here to help, and hopefully at a good time. We’re offering two sale items this go ’round: our Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) israelensis “Mosquito Dunks” and our previously re-introduced, always economical white cedar bat houses. Neither of these items will offer absolute mosquito control — and the bat houses need time to do their part — but combined these items can offer some mosquito relief.

The Mite Formally Known As Hypoaspis
Every once in a while a good bug goes in for a name overhaul. Some folks, taxonomists specifically, make a living doing this. Well, we’re just kidding on that front. Name changes are the result of myriad things ranging from oversight to discovery. Sometimes these changes rage back and forth, flip-flopping, while others cannot be agreed upon by the worldwide community, defeating the very purpose of the binomial nomenclature — a Latin name we can all agree on. But in any case, we’ve been informed that the predatory mite, Hypoaspis miles has been changed to Stratiolaelaps scimitus.
