We’ve been getting so many calls for spider mite control it’s pretty obvious two-spotted mites are the scourge of 2008, or so it seems. In response to this, we decided to offer the mite-predatory beetle Stethorus punctillum at a discount for a couple of weeks. We chose to discount this species to encourage users to give them a try. So far they have been well received, but even more feedback would be great.

Just because we’re on vacation, we can still offer you a sales item to benefit from. This time it’s the thrips predatory mite Neoseiulus cucumeris we’re offering. This sale isn’t in effect due to some natural occurrence or seasonal window as some of our promotions are, this item is on sale for the simple reason that it’s summer and some of our customers have thrips. For a couple of weeks some money can be saved.

We offer praying mantises, Tenodera aridifolia sinensis, as egg cases, and in the best interest of these insects, it’s best they go into the garden in June. We like to sell out around this time. After June they’ll still hatch, but numbers will go down and the poor mantids won’t be able to reach reproductive maturity in some parts of the country. That’s why we’re putting them on sale again. They need a home.

Not sure about your neck of the woods, so to speak, but it’s been dry around here. We haven’t had any substantial rainfall in a while. As a result the normal spring aphids aren’t as problematic as they can be. Instead, you might see more spider mites. As such we decided to put our popular mite predatory mites, Phytoseiulus persimilis, on sale for a limited time. If you are unlucky enough to have spider mites already, we’re here to help. Ladybugs, Hippodamia convergens, are not available at this time. This is a normal occurrence, they are often unavailable in May due to their normal life cycle. Hopefully they will be available again in June. In the meantime, at least for a couple of weeks, we’re going to try and help ease your pain by putting our lacewing products, the Chrysoperla spp., in all of its available forms, on sale. Lacewings aren’t as inexpensive as ladybugs, but they are an option. Use the eggs as a general preventive measure, and use the larvae for control.
