Our Newest Good Bug Dealers

Posted June 21st, 2008 by Mike Cherim

New Dealers! We’re very selective about our dealers and distributors. We always have been. Being persnickety stems from wanting reliable information given to end-users. In other words our dealers and distributors share our belief that in the long term customers are best served with facts, not marketing hype — our dealers and distributors have a commitment to learn about biocontrol and IPM and impart the facts and their wisdom so as to best serve end-users.

Last Minute Praying Mantis Sale

Posted June 16th, 2008 by Mike Cherim

Now On Sale! We offer praying mantises, Tenodera aridifolia sinensis, as egg cases, and in the best interest of these insects, it’s best they go into the garden in June. We like to sell out around this time. After June they’ll still hatch, but numbers will go down and the poor mantids won’t be able to reach reproductive maturity in some parts of the country. That’s why we’re putting them on sale again. They need a home.

Don’t Freak Out Over Pests

Posted June 12th, 2008 by Mike Cherim

Oh, my God. I have aphids on my lupine. This article was written specifically for home gardeners, those in particular whose financial well being doesn’t depend on the success of a given crop. In many ways the general idea of this — the whole concept of not freaking out over pests — applies to all, but this post has narrower focus. Kudos to Camden, Maine’s No Spray Way

Posted June 7th, 2008 by Mike Cherim

Implementing changes that matter is rarely easy. People can be difficult to please. That’s why when people go for it, implementing significant changes for the good, we simply must applaud them. Today we’re applauding the town of Camden, Maine. To make a longer story short, the town has banned, barring emergencies, the use of pesticides on all public lands. They didn’t have a big dependence on sprays, according to one news report, but they did suspend any limited applications that were present.

Sorry Mites… Persimilis is On Sale

Posted June 2nd, 2008 by Mike Cherim

Not sure about your neck of the woods, so to speak, but it’s been dry around here. We haven’t had any substantial rainfall in a while. As a result the normal spring aphids aren’t as problematic as they can be. Instead, you might see more spider mites. As such we decided to put our popular mite predatory mites, Phytoseiulus persimilis, on sale for a limited time. If you are unlucky enough to have spider mites already, we’re here to help. P. persimilis are a good choice.

The RTU Debacle

Posted May 28th, 2008 by Mike Cherim

We had recently written an article about all the green in the air this year. And since that article was written, about fifteen other articles have crossed our desk, all with the same theme: going green. It’s all good, a positive direction, a new level of conscientiousness. We’re happy about it. But some things still remind us we have a ways to go in some areas. Our RTU Debacle is one such area.
