Wheast – food for green lacewing adults
- Buy 10+: $15.55
Product Description
Wheast™ is a dry artificial diet that feeds and holds green lacewing (Chrysoperla rufilabris) adults right where you release them. Mixed into a simple paste, it gives adult lacewings the sugars they need to stay, mature, and lay eggs in the crop instead of dispersing. It also draws in and keeps other beneficial insects around the garden or greenhouse, which makes it a handy supplemental food whenever natural pollen and nectar are scarce.
What it supplements
- Green Lacewing (Chrysoperla rufilabris) adults
- Other beneficial insects that are sparse on food
Where to use it
Any environment where CHRYSOforce™ R adults are being used — gardens and greenhouses alike. It is especially helpful during dry spells, when wild pollen and nectar run short.
How Wheast feeds green lacewing adults
Wheast™ acts as a food supplement for green lacewing adults. Adult lacewings feed on sugars and pollen rather than pests, so a steady food source keeps them in the planting and supports egg-laying — and it is their hungry larvae that go on to hunt aphids and other soft-bodied pests.
Mixing & Application Instructions
Mixing: Mix one part of the food with an equal amount of honey or sugar. Add water slowly until a thick paste is formed — it should be smooth and creamy like peanut butter.
Application: Paint the mixture on cardboard or wooden stakes and place them in the garden or greenhouse. Leave crawling spaces on the stakes so the insects can feed without getting stuck on the paste.
Feeding timing: The best time for feeding is early morning, late evening, and when making releases of beneficial insects.
Spray applications: The mixture can be diluted further with water for spray applications — use 1 quart of water per 4 oz. of food/sugar mixture.
Storage: If you mix too much paste for a feeding, refrigerate the remainder and use it within five days. The dry mix keeps well if protected from light and moisture.
