FELTIELLAforce™ is the predatory midge Feltiella acarisuga, whose larvae specialize in eating spider mites. The females have exceptional hunting behavior, seeking out spider mite colonies to lay their eggs right beside the prey — so the next generation of larvae starts feeding immediately. Feltiella controls all stages of spider mites and works especially well in hot spots and dense canopies where predatory mites are harder to deploy. Use it in ornamentals, hemp/cannabis, vegetable crops, soft fruits, and tree nurseries, in greenhouses, indoor facilities, fields, and gardens.

How Feltiella acarisuga controls spider mites

Female midges hunt for spider mite colonies and lay their eggs next to them, laying around 30 eggs over five days. The eggs hatch in less than two days, and the larvae begin feeding on spider mites right away. Because Feltiella controls all stages of spider mites and the females actively seek out colonies, it is well suited to knocking down established hot spots.

Release Instructions

Release timing: FELTIELLAforce™ should be released when spider mites are first detected.

Release method: Take the top off the container and place it in a shaded spot near the spider-mite-infested plants. The adult midges will exit on their own, and the females will lay their eggs near the spider mite colonies.

Storage: Use immediately upon receipt. If that is not possible, the product can be briefly stored at 6–10°C / 42–50°F. Always adhere to the use-by date.

Monitoring: The larvae — yellow or red legless maggots — can be found on the underside of the foliage where spider mite colonies are. A lack of spider mites within a few days of release is a good sign Feltiella is working in the crop.

Advisories: Remove any yellow sticky cards for the first few days after releasing the midges. Blue sticky cards are fine to keep, but avoid releasing the midges right next to them. Use caution on food crops, since the midges pupate on the underside of the foliage.
