TRICHOforce™ is the tiny parasitic wasp Trichogramma, well known for preventing damage from moth and butterfly caterpillars. Instead of attacking the caterpillar after it hatches, it goes after the pest’s eggs — the wasp lays its own egg inside the moth egg, so a new wasp emerges instead of a caterpillar. That makes it a preventive tool best timed to moth flights in field crops, gardens, vineyards, and nurseries.

How Trichogramma controls caterpillars

Each female wasp seeks out freshly laid pest eggs and lays an egg inside them. The developing wasp consumes the egg’s contents, so the pest never reaches the destructive caterpillar stage. Because it works only on eggs, timing is critical — releases need to coincide with moth flight so host eggs are available for parasitism.

Release Instructions

Prepare the cards: To get an even distribution, cut each card into 30 hanging tags — flip the card over (egg side down) and cut along the perforated lines with scissors; do not tear.

Release method: Place the hanging tags once emergence has begun or after the wasps start emerging — you can see emergence as tiny brown dots moving around (a magnifying glass helps). Distribute the tags as evenly as possible throughout the target area, in the evening or early morning, in locations shaded from the sun and protected from rain. Ant control is important, since ants often attack the developing beneficials — another reason to distribute the tags after emergence has started.

Storage: Do not store the emerged adult wasps for more than 4 hours; hold at a moderately humid 55–65°F. Do not cold-store the wasps’ pupae for more than 3 days; hold at a slightly humid 45–50°F.
